United Presbyterian Church
Pastor Katie Mulligan
All Are Welcome!
Please join the United Presbyterian Church for Worship in person at the Levittown Campus or via Zoom at 10am. In response to Covid 19 in our community the United Presbyterian Church will continue to host all group meetings remotely via Zoom.
Beginning October 10, we will experiment with expanding our Sunday morning worship time in order to smooth out some of the challenges we’ve been experiencing as a hybrid worship community. Please join us as you are able for Zoom & in-person worship as we try this out October 10, 17, 24, and 31. We’ll re-evaluate after a few weeks and make changes as needed!
9:00-9:45 Zoom only: join us for prayer and scripture and music in a participatory style. We’ll be making room for innovation and experimentation. Pastor Katie will co-lead with others on the Zoom from her office. No in-personbinteraction for this part, although all are welcome to call or log in on the Zoom from the sanctuary, your car, your home, wherever. We’ll use the same scriptures as the later part of the service. We will have a time for joys & concerns in this early time and we will share those prayers as requested in the later time.
9:45-10:00 Passing of the Peace on Zoom. A time to greet and check in with each other before the next segment begins.
10:00-11:00 Second half of the service begins with Wayne’s Prelude. This portion of the service will be led from the sanctuary by folks in-person, but will also be shown on Zoom. We are asking lay leaders for this portion of the service to join us in-person. This would be considered the “Traditional” worship service, with hymns, the organ music, etc. We may try to share Joys & Concerns from the Zoom as well, but all other parts of this hour will be led from the sanctuary.
11:00-11:30 Passing of the Peace in-person & Coffee Hour on the Zoom & in-person.
11:30-12:00 Bell Choir. This will be in-person. Our home base is the Conference Room, but we may spread out into the sanctuary due to Covid concerns. Please wear a mask if you are participating in Bell Choir. All are welcome, even if you have never rung bells before! We will teach you the basics and we are keeping the music simple to start.
Depending on how Covid continues to shape our community, we may start up the vocal choir in January. We will wait to see how the numbers look in Nassau County and how often we have potential exposures from Sunday worship this fall. Please bear with us–the precautions will not last forever!
Let’s see how this goes. It’s been such a joy to see people in-person. AND it’s been such a joy to see all our folks on the Zoom who cannot or choose not to participate in-person.
Book Study starting Tuesday, October 12 – Moderated by Janice.
The weekly book study will meet via Zoom at 7pm. Please feel free to join the group even if you can only meet one from time to time.
The group will read and discuss the book: The Universal Christ by Richard Rohr. In this book: “Fr. Richard helps us to see and hear Jesus of Nazareth in what he taught, what he did and who he is – the loving, liberating, and life-giving expression and presence of God. In so doing, he is helping Christianity to reclaim its soul anew.”
If you are interested in participating, you may order the book from the publisher of your choice. Please email Janice at firstname.lastname@example.org if you plan to participate or have further questions.
Pastor’s office hours will be Wednesdays, 10-2 at Levittown and Thursdays 10-2 at Massapequa. And of course, by appointment. Please wear a mask, regardless of your vaccination status. For now, I will be asking us to sit outside, weather permitting. The zoom is open for pastor’s office hours by appointment (or a telephone call!) Please contact Pastor Katie if you would like to schedule a time to meet!
